Hot Ornamental Chilli Seeds


Below you will find a list of chilli seeds united by their ornamental qualities. They all do well in pots and are ideally suited to a sheltered spot on a sunny patio. Most are hot as well as attractive but a few listed below are purely ornamental. All the seeds are available in single packets and some are also included in the Hot Pots seed collection. Bulgarian Carrot Chilli Seeds


This variety may look like a baby carrot but be warned it can be very hot so don't try to feed them to your pet rabbit. The local name for these chillies is shipkas but its easy to see how they got their nickname.

Produces a very high yield of bright orange peppers with a fresh, fruity flavour. Pods are up to 10cm in length borne on a decorative looking plant. Compact plant ideally suited to containers.

Cappa Conic Chilli Seeds


Stunning ornamental chilli with multiple, strong stems and sprays of white, cream, orange and red fruits. These chillies make a beautiful display in the garden or as 'cut flowers'. Chillies are edible but without heat.

Etna Chilli Seeds


Etna is a spectacular-looking eruption of bright red chillies, held aloft the plant in distinct bunches. Etna is at the forefront of fairly recently bred hot and ornamental chillies from Italy.

This plant is not just ornamental either, the chillies are a seriously hot at 65,000ScU. Plants are medium sized but produce a good number of chillies. Etna won a Royal Horticultural Society Award Garden Merit in their 2006 Chilli Pepper Trials.

Mirasol Chilli Seeds


Mirasol literally means 'looking at the sun' and the chilli gets its name from its upwards pointing chillies which it grows in abundance. They are not without heat at 3,000-5,000 but grown more for their ornamental qualities, as they are a very attractive plant. They do dry well too.

Numex Centenniel Chilli Seeds


Numex Centennial – this chilli was specifically bred for small pots, highly ornamental with purple-veined foliage and a profusion of upright, purple fruits that ripen through purple, orange, yellow and red.  Originally bred in celebration of the Centennial celebrations of New Mexico University.

Orozco Chilli Seeds


Highly ornamental heirloom from Eastern Europe. Orozco has dark stems and foliage and hot little upright fruits that start out green then turn through a spectrum of colours from purple to orange and red. A lovely patio chilli.

Paper Lantern Chilli Seeds


Paper lantern chillies are beautifully ornamental plants with their bushy habit and myriad of clusters of emerald green, crumpled teardrop chilli pods. As chillies mature, their colour turns to a rich, blood red that appears to glow in the sunlight.

Don’t be fooled by their pretty appearance, these chillies are amongst the hottest five chillies in the world at 450,000ScU! They do very well in pots or will grow a bit bigger in a sheltered border, going very well with the bright colours of a summer flower bed – a real twist on the Hot border!

Pinata Chilli Seeds


An extremely attractive Jalapeno-type chilli that is easy to grow and great for pots on a sunny patio. Pods start out a bright green colour before ripening off through bright yellow to orange and finally red. Shiny plump pods look great on plants.

Purple Tiger Chilli Seeds


A very distinctive chilli plant with gorgeous tricolour foliage, purple, green and white that make this a real head-turner even before the flowers and fruits set. Pot size restricts growth so this is ideal on a sheltered patio or makes a great dot plant for a border with a long season of interest.

The Purple Tiger has lovely teardrop shaped fruits that mature through from purple to tricolour to red with the final result of medium hot, distinctively flavoured chillies. 6,000 - 9,000ScU

Prairie Fire Chilli Seeds


This dwarf variety of chilli is well suited to a conservatory, sunny windowsill or patio pot. It grows to just 15cm high, 30cm wide with a profusion of tiny leaves and mini chillies. It is highly attractive with its 1.5cm pointed fruits maturing from cream to orange and finally dark red, poking through the dense foliage.

Chillies are not just ornamental either, they might be small but they are pretty hot, maturing in just 80 days and they just keep coming all summer. Royal Black Chilli Seeds


Royal Black – one of the most elegant chillies you can grow in your garden, adding a lovely oriental accent to a patio or flowerbed.  The plant is tall and bushy, with dark purple foliage that has the occasional leaf tip of white and green.  The bullet-shaped pequin pods are both flavoursome and hot, starting out a dark purple shade and ripening to bright red.

Tricolour Variegata Chilli Seeds


With its gorgeous tri-colour foliage in green, dappled white and purple, this chilli is a real head turner even before it starts to flower and fruit. Tricolour Variegata does well in a pot and looks great on your patio.

It won a Royal Horticultural Society Award Garden Merit in their 2006 Chilli Pepper Trials. Plants have a spreading habit but can be pruned into the shape required. Chillies are medium hot.
