Sungold (F1) Tomato Plug Plant
__
A golden cherry tomato grown for flavour.
Sungold F1 is one of the most widely grown cherry tomatoes for sweetness, and its reputation is well earned. It’s an indeterminate variety that produces long trusses of small, golden-orange fruit and continues cropping steadily through the season with regular picking.
The tomatoes are round, evenly sized and notably juicy. Flavour is very sweet, with a distinctive fruity note that sets it apart from red cherry varieties, while still retaining enough acidity to stop it feeling flat. Under good growing conditions, sugar levels are high for a cherry tomato, which explains its popularity for fresh eating.
Sungold performs best under glass, where warmth and consistency allow both yield and flavour to develop fully. It will grow outdoors in a warm, sheltered position, but its strengths show most clearly in a greenhouse or polytunnel, where cropping is heavier and more predictable.
Its RHS Award of Garden Merit reflects how reliably it performs across different gardens. This is a variety chosen for flavour first, with productivity following close behind.
