Tumbling Tom Tomato Plug Plant

A trailing cherry tomato for outdoors.

Tumbling Tom is a compact, trailing cherry tomato bred for outdoor growing in containers, pots and hanging baskets. It’s a determinate (bush) variety, which means no staking, no side-shoot removal and very little intervention once planted.

Plants stay low and tidy but trail freely as they grow, spilling over the edges of pots and producing long chains of cherry tomatoes that hang clear of the soil. Fruit sets readily and ripens in steady waves, allowing regular picking through the season rather than a single heavy glut.

Tumbling Tom is available in both red and yellow forms. The yellow fruits are milder and softer in flavour, with lower acidity and a gently fruity sweetness that suits fresh eating, mixed salads and casual picking straight from the plant.

The red form has a brighter, more traditional tomato profile, with livelier acidity and a fuller savoury balance that works well for salads, roasting and everyday cooking.

Both forms perform reliably outdoors in UK conditions and are well suited to patios, balconies and smaller spaces where greenhouse growing isn’t practical. They are forgiving, productive plants that reward minimal effort with consistent crops.

Tumbling Tom is chosen for simplicity, dependable outdoor performance and flavour clarity rather than size or intensity, with the red and yellow forms offering a useful choice in acidity and character rather than just colour.
