This fabulous compact, dwarf, edible, and ornamental chilli stands at just 25cm tall, making it the perfect fit for your windowsill or sunny spot, adding a touch of charm to any space. It might be small, but it's never going to be overlooked.
With its abundant supply of early-maturing, upward-facing chillies, this little gem is a real feast for the eyes. If you can bear to part with it… it's a lovely chilli to give as a gift.
With its abundant supply of early-maturing, upward-facing chilli peppers, this little gem is a real feast for the eyes. If you can bear to part with it… it's a lovely chilli to give as a gift and unlike flowers it'll keep going all summer.
While the Jazz Chilli packs a punch at around a decent 20,000 SHU, it's not all about the heat. Unlike some chillies that deliver a single blast of fire, the Jazz offers a bit more of a nuanced experience. With Jazz, the heat builds gradually, complemented by a touch of sweetness and a subtle smokiness.
But the real stars of this incredibly ornamental plant are the chillies themselves. Starting out a vibrant green, they mature into a deep, almost mahogany red.
The peppers transition from green to yellow, orange, purple, and finally, fiery red, each stage bringing its own burst of colour. Perfect for adding a pop of spice to your culinary creations, while also doubling as a delightful decoration for your home.
Adding to its charm, the Jazz boasts a couple of fascinating quirks:
A Touch of the Blues: Not all Jazz Chillies are red! While mature pods are a deep mahogany, some exhibit a temporary pinkish or purplish blush during their growth.
This fleeting phenomenon is caused by anthocyanins, the same pigments that give blueberries their colour.
Defying Gravity: The dwarfing growth habit is only half the story. Jazz produces flowers and even chillies that grow upwards, defying gravity in a spectacular way.
If you're looking for a chilli that's more than just heat, perhaps something to brighten up your kitchen, then Jazz is the perfect way to Jazz it up. With its unique appearance, flavour profile, and quirky personality, it's sure to become a cherished addition to your home or garden.
World of Chillies was set up by Sarah Hunt in 2011 to promote chilli growing and the enjoyment of everything hot and spicy.
